Art345 Gallery Supports St. Mary's Arts for Healing Program

Art345

Art345, in collaboration with Eckert Fine Art, is presenting a new exhibition of paintings and sculptures, From Color to Light, with a public reception and art event on May 7th from 6-9pm to benefit St Mary's Kids. Inspired by a recent visit to St. Mary's Hospital for Children where they conducted a hands-on art workshop with our kids, the art collective is showing their support with a silent auction and a proceed of the evening's sales to benefit St. Mary's Arts for Healing Program.

Arts for Healing surrounds patients, staff, and families with opportunities to engage in a range of art and music experiences. The program combines contemporary art installations and artist-in-residence workshops with art and music therapy, providing patients with a creative outlet for self-expression and communication. The exposure to art and music is both healing and life enhancing, enabling children to free their imaginations. Read more about the Art345 event»

Music Beats Hearts Brings the Healing Power of Music to St. Mary's Kids!

Music beats HeartsMusic Therapy plays an important role in the far-reaching care that St. Mary’s provides to New York’s sickest children. Recently St. Mary’s Kids were treated to a special day of music and inspiration by Music Beats Hearts (MBH), a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing music therapy to children in hospitals by creating pre-programmed playlists on iPods. The MBH team distributed iPods and each child received a tutorial on how to use the device.

Jordan Stern, one of the founders of Music Beats Hearts attended the event. Years ago, his younger brother received services from St. Mary’s. He shared that this experience influenced his decision to return to St. Mary’s to share the joy of music.

St. Mary's Honors Amazing Volunteers

Adult Volunteers Award

On Thursday April 16, St. Mary’s paid tribute to over two dozen adult volunteers at an appreciation ceremony at our Bayside facility. Each volunteer was individually recognized and presented with a small gift and a certificate of appreciation. The volunteers gave a yearly total of over 4,700 hours of service to help St. Mary's Kids. Now that's amazing!

The Volunteer Program at St. Mary’s enables community members and friends of St. Mary’s to become involved in a variety of activities to support the mission of St. Mary’s, such as working directly with the children in recreational activities, tutoring, friendly visiting, or classroom assistance. Volunteers offer varied support to staff and can serve as “Friendly Visitors” who hold infants and toddlers providing sensory touch, and stroll infant/toddler in the patient neighborhoods, as well as rehabilitation helpers and recreation assistants.

A hearty thank you to all of our incredible volunteers for all that you do for St. Mary's Kids!

To learn more about our volunteer program and sign on as a volunteer, please contact Jillian Quinn at 718-281-8508 or at jquinn@stmaryskids.org.

Meet Nicholas

Nicholas Holman

7-year-old Nicholas was born with multiple developmental delays. He does not walk or talk and he requires multiple therapies to keep him healthy. Yet despite his medical challenges, he is a happy little boy who attends school, plays baseball, and lives at home with his family.

In February Nicholas’ health was seriously jeopardized when a virus attacked his brain, causing seizures and a high fever. He was unable to eat and was placed on a feeding tube. He came to St. Mary's to get stronger through rehab therapies.

In just 4 weeks, Nicholas made great progress and was able to go home. In recognition of his hard work, Nicholas has been named a Grand Marshal for the Walk for St. Mary’s Kids at Crocheron Park in Bayside on May 31.
