Spirit Halloween Wows St. Mary's Kids with Amazing Halloween Celebration

spirit halloween 2015 photo

On Wednesday, October 14, St. Mary’s Kids experienced Halloween in fine style courtesy of Spirit of Children, who treated the children to a lively fun-filled Halloween celebration.  The Spirit team provided a wide array of spooky and stunning costumes, as well as decorations, and trick or treat bags for each child. The Halloween celebration included a variety of arts and crafts activities, as well as Face Painting. The Spirit volunteers also brought along two of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to spend some time with the Kids.

Launched in 2006, Spirit Halloween created the Spirit of Children program to bring the joys of the year’s spookiest holiday to children in hospitals and rehabilitation centers who may not otherwise be able to join in Halloween festivities. The program has offered considerable financial support to St. Mary's Child Life and Therapeutic Recreational programs. Special thanks to our guests Rick Tereo, from Spencer Spirit Holdings, David Beige and Maria Morrell from Rubies and Juan Escobar and his team of young volunteers who joined in arts and crafts activities with St. Mary’s Kids. Meet Joshua

         joshua clue 1.jpg

16 year old Joshua is a true fighter. He came to St. Mary’s in 2013 to get medical care and was discharged in December of that year. Joshua returned to St. Mary’s Pediatric Day Healthcare program in January 2015 after being hospitalized for a medically complex condition. He must receive oxygen continuously to help manage his condition. One of his goals at St. Mary’s was to improve his endurance. At first Joshua was unable to walk more than a few yards without stopping multiple times. He is now able to walk approximately 600 feet with no breaks and no signs of distress after receiving rehabilitation services from St. Mary’s.
